Sunday 2nd May

Ceol le Chéile – Dawn & Dusk Chorus   The Bealtaine Dawn & Dusk Chorus events are festival favourites, which this year will feature our flagship choir, Donegal’s Ceol le Chéile, in a special online collaboration with two guest choirs – Ireland Unlimited and Aspiro. The choirs have been working hard behind the scenes and on Sunday 2nd of May, will be releasing an exclusive video of their preparations for this year: Tune in on Sunday 30th for the release of the final virtual performance. Produced in partnership with Sing Ireland and in association with Donegal Age Friendly Programme.   

Pat Gallagher – Live from the RCC  There is only a handful of bands that can use the term ‘legendary,’ but Donegal’s Goats Don’t Shave are undoubtedly one of them. Their iconic hit Las Vegas (in the Hills of Donegal) is still one of Irish folk rock’s most instantly recognisable songs. 7.00pm  

Music To Your Ears  If you’re looking for evidence of what an interest in the arts can do for the health and welfare of our older members of the community. Check out this men’s music and drama initiative – they have created videos highlighting their musical talents and take a walk down memory lane to special times in their lives. Border Tales – Film Premiere Directed by Keith O’Grady, Border Tales is an oral history film that deals with people’s experience of ‘the troubles’ in the northwest of Ireland, as they remember it. The stories are personal to each one, and their experiences are sometimes similar, and sometimes vastly different. It comes from a wider project run by the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny called ‘Northwest Border Stories’ that involved primary school-aged children from Donegal, Derry and Tyrone being trained in documentary techniques and conducting interviews with grandparents about their experience of the troubles. Supported through the European Union’s PEACE IV programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body. 7.00pm

Exhibitions

Here and Now – Write, Create, Reflect The ‘Here and Now’ programme was a series of online creative workshops coordinated by the Regional Cultural Centre which invited Donegal based participants to engage in art journaling as a way of documenting their experience of life in Ireland at this time. This online exhibition features selections of the work completed by the participants.

Living In Donegal –  A Virtual Exhibition Living in Donegal is a socially engaged exhibition project starring twenty-seven people who live in County Donegal, Ireland. It features a snapshot of the lives and stories of these individuals in 2020.

A World Apart – The Donegal District Lunatic Asylum 1866 – 1922 A unique exhibition, depicting the hidden history behind the walls of the Donegal District Lunatic Asylum between 1866 and 1922.

Loving Life – Pauline Norry A stunning collection of both paintings and hand embroidered pieces created by Strabane native Pauline Norry. A vibrant and active 80 year old, this is Pauline’s second exhibition and it embraces Pauline’s love for her family, friends and all that she holds so dear.

Waterside Theatre Presents – Telling Tales The Waterside Theatre worked in partnership with Dementia NI and their clients over twenty weeks to produce individual pieces of poetry and visual art work. This exhibition of their work is funded by Awards for All and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. 24th – 31st May

Shirts, Singers & Sewing Machines – Shirt Factory Exhibition of the NW This exhibition profiles some of the archives and objects linked to the shirt factory heritage of the Northwest. The project was developed in partnership with the Inner City Trust and the Fashion and Textile Design Centre following discussions on objects which are currently on loan to the Centre. The history of shirt factories across our region is well known and recent activities looked to mark those that have worked in the factories and to celebrate this important part of our society.
