Confirmed writers include Lisa McInerney, Tom Morris, Aingeala Flannery, Patrick Holloway and Jessica Traynor.

In Print: Irish Writing Today

Greatest Story Ever Told

Saturday 20th July, 7pm Rathmullan, Mary Macs – FREE

Writers, editors, readers and special guests are invited to tell (in the space of about 5 minutes each) the greatest true yarn, anecdote or story of their lives.

Poems in Disguise Workshop with Jessica Traynor

Sunday 21st July, 1.30pm Rathmullan, Rathmullan House – €10

We often think about form when we’re writing poetry – sestinas, villanelles, sonnets – but poetry can take any form we like. What about poems in the forms of emails, advertisements, lectures, scientific articles, or poison pen letters? Using a number of poems as prompts, we’ll be exploring how to lift our poems out of traditional forms and put them to work in strange new environments. This workshop is suitable for those comfortable writing and sharing new work in a supportive group environment.

Prose Seminar with Patrick Holloway

Sunday 21st July, 3.30pm Rathmullan, Rathmullan House – €10

Join an interactive talk with Patrick Holloway, editor of The Four Faced Liar, about the importance of opening paragraphs in short stories and pieces of creative nonfiction. Find out why some stories jump off the page from the very start and how you can find ways to improve your own writing. Examples from various journals in both fiction and creative nonfiction will be used, showcasing various writers and styles. Participants will be invited to join the conversation if they wish by deconstructing the examples. A fun, conversational talk that gets to the heart of writing shorter pieces.
