The Paddy Tunney Talk.

John Tunney in conversation with Grace Toland

Named after the late Paddy Tunney, the inaugural Donegal International Folk & Roots Festival Talk, featuring his son John Tunney in conversation with Grace Toland, will explore both Paddy’s legacy and the singing, collecting and archiving of traditional song more generally. John Tunney grew up in Letterkenny in a house filled with song and sang from childhood. He will talk particularly about ‘Songs of the Three Townlands – A Donegal Family Repertoire’, songs handed down from pre-Famine singers in South Donegal, tracing how they came to be sung by Paddy himself and by his mother Brigid before him. Grace Toland is the new Director of the Irish Traditional Music Archive. A native of Inishowen, Grace

is a well known recorded traditional singer in English and Irish. She has played a prominent role in sustaining and reviving traditional
song in Inishowen through the Inishowen Traditional Singers Circle and ITMA’s successful Inishowen Song Project microsite.
