Donegal County Council’s Culture and Creativity Team are seeking proposals for creative events and activities for Cruinniú na nÓg 2023.
Cruinniú na nÓg, the national day of creativity for children and young people, takes place on Saturday 10th June and aims to celebrate and encourage children and young people’s participation in culture and creativity by providing free, activity-based action.
Through an Open Call, Donegal County Council’s Culture and Creativity Team are seeking proposals from practitioners, community groups and organisations for creative events and activities that will provide opportunities for children and young people to make, do, try or see in their own locality.
Once again, in the Voice of the Child Survey, suggestions are being gathered from young people across the county as to what they might like to do this Cruinniú na nÓg.
The purpose of collecting the voice of children and young people across Donegal is to use those suggestions to build a day that provides them with creative experiences they would like to explore.
Applicants are asked to consult the suggestions put forward by children and young people when designing their proposal to help make their suggestions a reality.
EXPRESSION OF INTEREST – OPEN CALL
The emphasis of Cruinniú na nÓg is on doing, making, creating. Through an Open Call we are looking for practitioners, venues, organisations or community groups to make a proposal for an event to take place in a venue or format which is accessible within your own community.
We are not currently seeking proposals for events for our libraries, museum or Regional Cultural Centre as we have done in previous years. We would encourage creative practitioners in any medium or artform (such as theatre, dance, music, opera, film, circus, performance, fashion, photography, visual arts, digital arts, literature and storytelling, street art and spectacle) to submit a proposal.
Traditional skills practitioners or others with expertise in areas such as flora & fauna/biodiversity, folklife, archaeology, built heritage, history, vernacular architecture or any related field are also encouraged to consider how they might engage with Cruinniú na nÓg.
Submissions are welcome from communities in every location in the county, and projects or events must take place or culminate on Saturday 10th June 2023. Applicants are asked to consider suggestions from children and young people across Donegal, which can be found at www.wainfest.ie. Alternative formats such as online or post are also welcome.
Cruinniú na nÓg is funded through the Creative Ireland Team, Donegal. Event proposers are encouraged to make realistic submissions in terms of scale and costs and funding will be allocated to those events which best meet the objectives of Cruinniú na nÓg as outlined in the application form.
Cruinniú na nÓg proposal forms can be downloaded at www.wainfest.ie. Completed forms should be emailed to CreativeIreland@donegalcoco.ie by Sunday 19th March 2023.
Cruinniú na nÓg is an initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme at the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and is presented in partnership with RTÉ and Local Authorities.
