Saturday 26th September , 8pm
The Art of Resistance Collective will host a screening of award winning human rights documentary Human Harvest on September 26th at 8pm at the Letterkenny Regional Cultural Centre.
The documentary has won eight awards since its release in 2014, including the 74th Peabody Award and the 2015 Michael Sullivan Frontline Award for Journalism in a Documentary Film.
The documentary follows the investigative work by Canadian Nobel Peace Prize nominees David Matas and David Kilgour on
whether, and how, since 1999 state-run hospitals in China have harvested and sold the organs of tens of thousands of prisoners
of conscience, the majority being Falun Gong practitioners. According to the documentary China’s illegal organ trade is now a $1 billion industry.
On the night The Art of Resistance Collective will be joined by Zhao Ming, a Falun Gong practitioner, who in 1999 was illegally
arrested and persecuted in a Chinese forced labour camp. Ming was subsequently freed after efforts from the Irish government.
Ming will also hold a Falun Gong workshop on Sunday September 27th 1pm at the Letterkenny Cultural Centre.
Admission is free for both these events and all are welcome to attend.
Falun Gong is a traditional Chinese qigong practice comprised
of five slow moving ‘tai-chi like’ exercises, and a philosophy of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance. It is practiced by 100 million people in 100 countries around the world.
