Inspired by the landscapes of Donegal, Norman Gibson’s paintings capture the distinctive character of the county’s coastline, mountains and rural communities. This exhibition focuses exclusively on his Gola Island work and represents a truly emotional response to the objects and home interiors he has encountered during his visits over the last fifteen years. The paintings reveal how these everyday surroundings, from weathered furniture to cherished household items and the quiet atmosphere of lived‑in spaces, have become intertwined with his experience of place, offering an intimate perspective on the Island’s cultural and domestic life.
Originally from Dunfanaghy, Norman now works from his studio at Cavan Hill outside Lifford. He regularly travels throughout Donegal, particularly along the coastline, seeking inspiration for his paintings. His work has been acquired by collectors at home and abroad, including in America, England and Germany. He has previously exhibited at the County Museum in Letterkenny, The Courthouse in Lifford, An Clachán Gallery in Gweedore, and currently has an exhibition titled Images of Sheephaven Bay on display at the Shandon Hotel in Marble Hill.
