Mná Port Mhaise – Obair na Mná

Mná Port Mhaise is a collective of women who meet weekly at Ionad Phobal Machaire Rabhartaigh to explore creativity and community through artmaking. Guided by artist and fellow member Mary Toland, the group works collaboratively across a range of materials and techniques, embracing experimentation and shared learning.

For this exhibition, the group presents a series of works developed through three interconnected projects. The first features two large collaborative panels made up of individual A4 pieces, each reflecting personal responses to the artists’ surrounding environments. The second project takes the form of fabric collages on A3 panels, inspired by memories of family homes—an evocative journey that sparked rich conversations about place, belonging, and the past. The final element explores weaving and stitching, using leftover yarn from knitting and crochet to create textured works that celebrate upcycling, resourcefulness, and the beauty of handmade craft.

Together, these works highlight the group’s collective spirit and deep connection to memory, material, and community.

Mná Phort Mhaise. “ Obair na mban”

Taispeántas Pobail (Gailearaí forhalla RCC)

20ú Eanáir – 28ú Feabhra 2026

Is grúpa ban iad Mná Phort Mhaise a bhuaileann le chéile go seachtainiúil in Ionad Phobail Machaire Rabhartaí chun cruthaíocht agus pobal a chíorú tríd dhéanamh ealaíne.  Is í an t- ealaíontóir Mary Toland éascaitheoir an ghrúpa don togra seo. Is ball í féin den ghrúpa fósta. Tugann sí treoir do na mná a bheith ag obair le hábhair éagsúla agus le ceardaíochtaí, ag baint taitnimh as triail a dhéanamh agus foghlaim a roinnt eadarthu.  Bíonn siad.  i dtólamh ag foghlaim.

Don taispeántas seo cuireann Mná Phort Mhaise sraith oibreacha a rinneadh forbairt orthu tríd thrí thogra comhcheangailte inár láthair.

Is é an chéad cheann ná dhá phainéal comhcheangailte inár láthair. Is é an chéad cheann ná dhá phainéal comhoibrithe déanta as obair aonara  A4, an dá cheann a  chaitheann scáilí ag freagairt ar thimpeallacht an n-ealaíontóirí.

Is é an dara ceann ná colláis éadach ar phainéil A3 a spreagadh de bharr cuimhní na n-ealaíontóirí ar an bhaile teaghlaigh. Is é seo aistear a spreag comhráití saibhre faoi áit, a bheith mar chuid de mhuintir agus an t-am a chuaigh thart.

Sa chuid dheirneach déanann na healaíntóirí fíodóireacht agus fuáil.  Úsáideann na mná snáth atá fágtha ó chniotáil agus óchróise chun oibreacha uigeachta a chruthú a dhéanann ceiliúradh ar uarchúrsáil, acmhainneacht agus áilleacht an cheird lámhdéanta.

Le chéile, aibhsíonn na hoibreacha seo spiorad an ghrúpa le chéile, mar mheitheal agus an nasc atá ann le cuimhne, ábhar agus pobal
