Get ready for an exciting celebration of poetry, performance and community at Earagail Arts Festival 2026. Samuel Yakura will lead a vibrant series of workshops with local writers and spoken-word artists, helping participants grow in confidence, sharpen their craft and bring new work to life. The journey will culminate in a high-energy poetry slam showcase spotlighting both established and fresh Donegal voices. Alongside this, Samuel will lead a poetry walk through Glenveagh Park, where landscape, memory and history meet (see separate listing for Ubuntu Trekkers) Through themes of displacement, belonging, courage and community, participants will be encouraged to reflect, write, share and step beyond their comfort zones in a vibrant celebration of people and place.
Samuel Yakura is a Nigerian-Irish Multidisciplinary artist whose dynamic presence has made him a standout voice in Ireland’s creative scene. A Poet, Playwright, and Performer, winning multiple slam championships across Nigeria and Ireland. His works border heavily on the Human Condition, Identity and cross-cultural Inquiry. He has collaborated with major institutions including Poetry Ireland, the Abbey Theatre and Dublin Fringe. His debut poetry play, The Perfect Immigrant, earned multiple award nominations and toured nationwide in 2023. Co-founder of Wearegriot Poetry Collective, he co-hosts one of Dublin’s biggest poetry slams; Talkatives. He was a recent cohort member on the Rachel Baptiste Programme as well as a Next Wave Playwright with the National Theatre. He is developing new works “SOAK and Citizens of Nowhere”.
