Director Emmet Harte brings to the screen the remarkable true story of Raphoe native Ollie Hepburn, better known as Texas Ollie. This warm, life-affirming documentary explores dreams, determination and a life lived on one’s own terms.
Growing up in 1950s Donegal, Ollie was captivated by cowboy films and Wild West heroes, a fascination that would shape the course of his life. From small-town beginnings in Raphoe, he set his sights on becoming a real-life cowboy, eventually travelling to Texas and beyond to work on Dude Ranches and perform internationally. Against expectation, a childhood dream became a lifelong calling.
Texas Ollie follows Ollie’s journey through decades of adventure, from performing in Germany to touring with the celebrated Spirit of the Horse equestrian show across Ireland, the UK and Dubai. Central to the film is his powerful bond with his beloved horse Silver, a partnership built on trust, patience and shared freedom.
Now living quietly on a small ranch near Glenties with his trick horses, Ollie reflects on a life shaped by courage, imagination and resilience.
