‘Palestine Culture Night at Regional Culture Centre, Letterkenny, marks the UN International Day of Solidarity With The Palestinian People 2025.
The evening celebrates unity, diversity, and community, honouring the Palestinian people and their rich culture, heritage and traditions. This year’s programme offers Palestinian cuisine, art, live music, film, and Palestinian embroidery.
On the night, there will be an opening of the art exhibition by Raed Issa and Sohail Salem, two Palestinian artists from Gaza who continued to make work in Gaza during genocide. They used, hand made charcoal, biro, paints made from flowers and leaves, and created an extraordinary and poignant visual documentation.
Performers include Niwar Issa. Nîwar is a composer, music producer, and multi-instrumentalist from Iraqi Kurdistan. Trained in music composition and the qanun, a traditional Middle Eastern stringed instrument. His work blends the rich musical heritage of his Kurdish roots with diverse global influences, creating a distinctive sound that resonates across cultures.
We’re also delighted to feature Duozouk. Bouzouki players Nikos Petsakos (Greece) and Martin Coyle (Ireland) explore the journey of the bouzouki from early 1900’s Greece, across Europe and it’s entry into Ireland. Rebetiko, traditional arrangements from various European countries as well as modern compositions presented on Greek Tri-chordo, Irish four course and Baglama.
We will also have a screening of short film An Orange from Jaffa, directed by Mohammed Almughanni.
