In a unique celebration of sporting history and contemporary music, Donegal ’92: All-Ireland Football Final Live Score sees acclaimed Dublin-based musician and sound artist Brian Dillon compose and perform a live score to Donegal’s iconic 1992 All-Ireland Football Championship victory over Dublin. A lifelong GAA fan, Dillon brings both emotional depth and playful experimentation to the project, blending piano, synthesizers, and drum machines in a tribute to this legendary match. Joining him on stage are renowned collaborators Ben Bix (electronics), Caitríona Finnegan (cello), and Molly O’Shea (violin), all of whom bring rich and diverse musical backgrounds to the performance. Together, they reimagine this historic sporting moment through an immersive, cinematic soundscape—merging nostalgia, pride, and artistry. Expect an atmospheric celebration of triumph, community, and music, presented with heart and humour.
Musicians / Composers:
Brian Dillon
Brian Dillon is a musician and sound artist, based in Dublin, Ireland. Originally from Nenagh, a small town in rural Tipperary, he has never quite been able to escape the lines of identity that separate his life from the lives of others. He primarily plays piano, but also has a wide range of knowledge of a variety of synthesizers and drum machines.
Brian is a member of Meltybrains? and has worked with a range of Irish musicians over the last 10 years, including Talos, Denise Chaila, Loah, Brídín and Lilla Vargen among others. He has performed at many international festivals such as SXSW and Iceland Airwaves and his music has previously been featured in Q Magazine, Boiler Room and Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist. Despite the earnestness of much of his musical output, Brian is great craic (he swears).
Brian has also worked as a professional sound artist and sound designer and his previous work includes installations for Ireland’s Museum of Modern Art and The Wild Atlantic Way. He has also been commissioned as a composer for several Irish authorities, including Fáilte Ireland, Cavan County Council and Tipperary County Council.
In recent years he has gleaned a great deal of experience from collaborating with a range of musicians, as well as artists from a number of disparate disciplines, including JFDR, Anna B Savage, Emma Martin (choreographer), Ellius Grace (director), Emmet Kirwan (actor/writer), Mark McGuinness (photographer) and Kate Dunne (aerialist).
Brian is a massive GAA fan and is extremely excited about having the chance to compose and perform a score for Donegal’s victorious 1992 All-Ireland Final.
Ben Bix
Ben is an Irish musician who plays a variety of instruments (guitar, bass, drums, all things synthesizer) and has worked with numerous Irish artists including Meltybrains?, Sorcha Richardson, Talos, Fehdah and Sim Simma.
He also works as an engineer, producer and DJ and has a wide range of experience with electronic dance music and soundscape.
Caitriona Finnegan
Caitríona Finnegan is a cellist from Dublin, Ireland. She completed a Bachelor of Music at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and graduated with a Masters from the Manhattan School of Music, USA. As well as being a chamber and orchestral musician, she enjoys playing a multitude of genres from classical to folk to traditional and pop music.
Caitríona is a freelance performer and has completed projects with the like of Crash Ensemble, Irish National Opera, the Irish Chamber Orchestra, Music Network’s Resonate series and Glasshouse Music at a range of concerts, festivals and recordings in collaboration with various Irish artists throughout the country.
Molly O’Shea
Molly O’Shea is a violinist, currently based in Dublin. She completed her BMus in the Cork School of Music in June of 2019 under the guidance of Ruxandra Petcu-Colan and Liz Charleson, graduating with First Class Honours. She had spent the previous 3 years studying under Marc Danel at l’Institut de la Musique et de Pedagogie in Namur, Belgium and graduated with Distinction from a Violin Performance Masters June of 2018.
Molly is an avid chamber musician. With the Inis quartet, Molly was invited to participate in the West Cork Chamber Music Festival masterclasses in summer 2023, taking masterclasses with the Armida Quartet, the Pacifica Quarter and the Ardeo Quartet. She was selected to participate in the Chamber Music Gathering 2019 in the National Concert Hall. In November 2018, Molly was selected to perform at the Philharmonie de Liege as part of a Young Chamber Musicians Programme. She has been a member of the First Violin section of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland since March 2020 while also maintaining a varied freelance career.
