Part of Sound! Soundtrack Film Festival | Celebrating 100 Years of Eisenstein’s Masterpiece

A cinematic landmark that still stuns nearly a century later, Battleship Potemkin is more than just a film—it’s a revolution on screen. Directed by the legendary Sergei Eisenstein, this 1925 masterpiece brings to life a real naval mutiny that ignites a wave of rebellion, told in five gripping chapters.

Hailed as the greatest film of all time at the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair and one of the few films to appear on every Sight and Sound critics’ poll since 1952, Potemkin is not only a cornerstone of film history—it’s a visceral, thrilling experience. Eisenstein’s groundbreaking editing and striking visual style still captivate, and the legendary Odessa Steps sequence—quoted, parodied, and imitated countless times—retains its jaw-dropping power.

To mark the film’s 100th anniversary, the Regional Cultural Centre is proud to present a special screening with a newly commissioned live score led by Rory Friers, celebrated guitarist and composer from the acclaimed band And So I Watch You From Afar. Commissioned as part of the Sound! Soundtrack Film Festival, Friers’ bold new score reimagines Eisenstein’s vision with a powerful contemporary sound, performed live with a specially assembled ensemble of musicians.

Whether you’re a film lover or a history buff, don’t miss this rare opportunity to see the film that helped shape the language of cinema—with a brand new score performed live in an intimate, unforgettable setting.

Limited capacity – early booking strongly recommended.
