Celebrated singer Cathy Jordan, from the traditional powerhouse Dervish, brings these tales to life with music, sound, and visuals, preserving them for future generations. Using a ‘Crankie box’—a unique storytelling device with scrolling illustrations—this project beautifully marries song and art. Featuring a selection of music from an archive of 32 songs, one from each county in Ireland, the Crankie Island Song Project is a musical atlas of the island, highlighting themes of love, loss, rebellion, and revelry.
Join Cathy and her virtuosic musical ensemble on their nationwide tour this October, blending haunting melodies with captivating visuals for an unforgettable experience. The show will showcase a specially commissioned scrolling ‘Crankie box’ illustration by Peter Crann, set to the Donegal traditional song “Fil Fil a Rún.”
