Internationally acclaimed clarinettist, saxophonist and composer Giacomo Smith brings his trio to Django Donegal 2026 for an evening of virtuosic musicianship.
Born in Italy and raised in the United States, Smith has established himself as one of the leading figures in contemporary jazz, combining a deep understanding of early jazz traditions with a distinctly modern approach. As founder of the internationally renowned Kansas Smitty’s House Band, he has performed alongside artists including Wynton Marsalis, Jamie Cullum, Bireli Lagrène, China Moses, Stephen Riley, Soweto Kinch, Guy Barker and Julian Bliss. He has also produced albums for Jamie Cullum, Damian Lewis, Zara McFarlane, Jas Kayser and Joe Stilgoe.
Joining Smith are Mathieu Chatelain on rhythm guitar and William Brunard on double bass, while special guest Hugo Guezbar brings his own distinctive voice to the line-up. Born in Montpellier, France, Guezbar has emerged as one of the brightest young talents in European gypsy jazz, earning widespread recognition for his lyrical improvisation, effortless technique and unmistakable sound. Deeply influenced by Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery, George Benson and Biréli Lagrène, he represents an exciting new generation of musicians carrying the tradition forward.
Combining exceptional musicianship with a spirit of Django Reinhardt, this promises to be a memorable evening from four extraordinary performers.
