Donegal International Folk & Roots Weekend (11th to 14th July), presented by Earagail Arts Festival & The Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny

The Donegal fiddle tradition is renowned all over the world as one of the dominant styles of the Irish fiddle tradition. Within this Donegal style there is a rich diversity of local accents.

A highlight of last year’s festival, Mná na bhFidleacha, curated by Tara Connaghan and Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, assembled a selection of the finest female traditional fiddle players of all ages from across County Donegal.

Having lost a number of influential keepers of the tradition in the last year, such as Tommy Peoples and Vincent Campbell, this year Tara and Mairéad will gather some of the mentors of Donegal fiddle traditions from around the county to give a taste of the passing on of this great tradition and heritage.

Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Jimmy Campbell, Peter Campbell, Danny Meehan, Dinny McLaughlin, Frank Kelly, Martin McGinley, Bríd Harper, Seamus Gibson, Seamus Sweeney, Ciarán Ó Maonaigh, Aidan O’Donnell, Roisin McGrory (Harrigan), Tara Connaghan, Derek McGinley, Eilidh McGinley, Jamsie Wrey, Brandon Shovelin, Nia Byrne, Oisín Duffy
