Based on the Jamaican term for disc jockey (Selector), The Selecter were at the forefront of the 2Tone ska revival movement of the late 70’s and early 80’s. A racially and gender integrated band they challenged racism and sexism issues alongside their 2Tone compatriots The Specials. Famed for singles such as Too Much Pressure and On My Radio, The Selecter is led by their iconic frontwoman Pauline Black and co-fronted by original member Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson. The anarchic passion that fuelled their gigs during the 2 Tone era is still there, except the pair (Pauline & Gaps) are more focused than ever. Their latest album, Subculture, was mixed by UK dub-master Prince Fatty and released to critical acclaim in 2015.
The Selecter are supported on the night by legendary Clash cinematographer and BBC6 music DJ “selector” Don Letts.
