THE Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council has said the county’s primary product is its people.

Speaking at the official launch of the 2019 Donegal Tourism ‘Go Visit Donegal’ Brochure in the Villa Rose Hotel & Spa, Ballybofey this afternoon, Cllr Seamus Ó Domhnaill said anyone with a lineage to Donegal must strive to develop and assist with tourism in Donegal.

“A particular welcome to the people who are here from the tourism trade today for what is a very important and significant day in the 2019 tourism calendar for Donegal as we launch, officially, the 2019 Donegal Tourism booklet.

“For me it encapsulates what the people within this room are about and the services that you provide on behalf of us, the County of Donegal.

“We have strived in recent years to try to increase the visitor numbers in Donegal and as a council, we find ourself in the position that we have increased funding for tourism within Donegal and some of that is encapsulated in the booklet.

“But much of it is synopsised by the presentation Barney McLaughlin (Donegal County Council’s Head of Tourism) gave you and it is about spreading the word, it is about spreading the message.

“With the traction that is gained through the revenue that has been spent within the tourism sector we believe that it is assisting not only the tourism providers in the county, but assisting our county as a people, assisting our county as an identity of who we are and assisting the youth of our county to be retained within employment, and good employment with County Donegal.

“Any of us that have any lineage to Donegal whatsoever, must strive to develop and assist with tourism that is within Donegal, because we have a product that is absolutely second to none the world over,” the Cathaoirleach said.

Cllr Ó Dohmnaill said the county’s primary product is its people. “The one thing that people will bring back, from where ever they are, are the links and the people that they met and how they were made feel.

“When I am on other foreign shores and, indeed, in other counties in this country, representing the people of Donegal, our people are always held in the highest esteem, so I congratulate each and everyone of you, all of your staff, for the good will factor, and the feelgood factor that you instill into the people that were are trying to get into our county.”
