Visual Arts Programme

The Regional Cultural Centre has three main exhibition spaces: Gallery 1 on the 1st floor and the foyer gallery and Gallery 2 on the ground floor. Gallery 1 caters primarily for national/international group exhibitions and major solo shows.

The ground floor foyer gallery and new gallery cater mainly for local artists shows and community and education art exhibitions. The exhibition policy is deliberately broad and audience centred and the main aim is to offer local people and visitors a variety of high quality arts experiences that are likely to be of interest to them.

The RCC is also committed to exploring issues of local and wider interest through the medium of the exhibition. As a result there is a considerable variety of exhibitions including contemporary art, craft, design, architecture, education, social history, disability, and health. The Centre operates a continuous year-round programme of approximately six exhibitions in the main gallery on the 1st floor and ten exhibitions in the ground floor foyer gallery. The Centre curates and commissions new exhibitions and selects touring exhibitions and exhibition proposals consistent with this audience centred philosophy.

The RCC organises an education programme on an exhibition by exhibition basis and works particularly closely with the Secondary Level Donegal Art Teachers Association with whom it runs the annual Suil na nOg Junior Cent Art exhibition. The RCC also creates an annual large-scale, hands-on, art-room to accompany the Earagail Arts Festival exhibition each summer where visitors can find out more about the art in the exhibition and make their own artworks inspired by the show.
