November 17 – January 12
John Beattie’s practice explores the drawing / painting process in various contexts, such as the studio, the gallery, and the public space. By employing video, photography, drawing and painting, he challenges both the viewer and his own creative process of looking at, understanding of, and producion of art. His most recent work – The Artist Studio Series – is process-oriented and context-specific and examines the romantic depiction of ‘The Artist’, the role of the artist, the place of production (studio) and the public sphere (gallery). Through this, he aims to realise the creative process with a sensibility of incompletedness & openness, allowing the viewer the ability to question & complete the process.
