Space For Learning

14 February – 16 March

This exhibition from the Irish Architecture Foundation was an innovative show full of creative ideas developed by architects and secondary school students. There were a number of free events to accompany the exhibition including a Panel Discussion featuring exhibition curator Rachel McAree and one of the participating architects Robert Bourke. This groundbreaking exhibition showcased the winning ten designs from this wonderful competition that challenged current thinking on school design.120 architects worked with 1500 students in 90 schools across Ireland in the developmental phase of this project. These architects collaborated directly with Transition Year students on the design of educational spaces.Ten winning architect-student teams from counties Cavan, Limerick, Louth, Cork and Dublin created films, installations, models and drawings to illustrate their ideas about learning spaces and environments. The exhibition had previously toured in Dublin, Carlow, Belfast and Cork.Rachel McAree, Education Curator for the IAF had previously noted how “it was inspirational to see the students and architects working together on their projects about school design” while also stating that “the exhibits are amazing, full of creative ideas and innovation.”
