Earagail Arts Festival in association with the Regional Cultural Centre presents The RTE Contempo Quartet with special guests The Máirtín O’Connor Band.
Described by The Strad magazine as “a polished and professional group…full of exuberance with a fine sense of ensemble”, the RTÉ Contempo Quartet is one of the most exciting and vibrant chamber ensembles performing today. Since its formation in Bucharest in 1995, it has performed world-wide in prestigious venues such as St Martin-in-the-Fields, Berliner Philharmonie, Palazzo del Quirinale Rome and Carnegie Hall.
This prolific RTE ensemble has won numerous international prizes and has premiered and recorded many contemporary pieces, working with composers such as Steve Reich, Jane O’Leary, Alec Roth, Ian Wilson, John McLachlan, Gráinne Mulvey and Donnacha Dennehy. For a very special festival performance they will be performing an entertaining mix of Irish Traditional, Romanian folk and Classical music, joined by the Máirtín O’Connor Band.
Featuring acclaimed Irish button accordionist Máirtín O’Connor, founding member of Four Men and A Dog, Cathal Hayden and Sligo guitarist Seamie O’Dowd, they produce a vibrant and musically charged experience that redefines one’s concept of brilliance, verging on perfection.
If this musical powerhouse does not get you to your feet, nothing will.
