Two traditional music superstars, former Solas band-mates Karan Casey and John Doyle perform together as a duo. Karan Casey has long been one of the most innovative provocative and imitated voices in Irish traditional and folk music. Her career has spanned twenty years from the early days as a jazz performer to her heady days in New York with the band Solas the most celebrated Irish band in the U.S. to her now blossoming solo career she has sold over half a million albums. Following their groundbreaking early releases, including the Grammy nominated debut, Casey struck out on her own. Since embarking on her solo career Karan has released 5 solo albums. She has toured constantly throughout North America, Europe and Japan, performing with her own band as well as with such diverse musicians as Tim O’Brien, Karen Matheson and Lunasa. Karan has won awards for “Best Folk Album” and “Best Folk Female” from Irish Music Magazine and been nominated for the BBC Folk Awards. “Exile’s Return” with John Doyle was released to widespread critical acclaim in early 2010.
After leaving Solas, John has gone on to perform and tour with other greats – Eileen Ivers, Tim O’Brien (John was included on Tim’s 2006 Grammy-award winning CD, “Fiddler’s Green”), Linda Thompson, Kate Rusby, and many others. In recent years, John has gained major recognition for his part as a duo with Chicago fiddler Liz Carroll (their recording, “Double Play” received a 2010 Grammy nomination for “Best Traditional World Music Record”); as McGoldrick, McCusker and Doyle; as 1/3 of the stellar trio “The Teetotallers” with Martin Hayes and Kevin Crawford, as well as Karan Casey and John Doyle. With the release of John’s most recent solo recoding, “Shadow and Light” in 2011, his significant talents as songwriter and singer are finally coming to the fore. John has now firmly established himself as one of the most versatile, creative and prolific voices in folk and traditional Irish music.
