Contemporary Art For Children

February 13 – March 15

A brand new art exhibition specially designed for children in 4th – 6th class called ‘Contemporary Art for Children’ will be held at the Regional Cultural Centre Letterkenny from Thursday February 13th to Saturday March 15th 2014. The exhibition is developed by the RCC in partnership with An Gailearaí Gweedore and Glebe Gallery Churchill and will be held in An Gailearaí in January/February next year.

The exhibition features 60 Irish and international art works from the Glebe Gallery Collection and the Donegal County Council Collection. Highlights include works by Pablo Picasso, Pierre Bonnard, Derek Hill, Oskar Kokoschka, Jeff Koons, James Dixon, Nora McGuinness, Camille Souter, and Victor Pasmore. The exhibition is divided into four categories: Portrait, Landscape, Still Life and Abstract. It attempts to give children an insight into how art has developed from being realistic to being abstract.

The exhibition links to aspects of the Art Curriculum including: drawing, paint & colour, construction and fabric & fibre and also explores line, shape, form, tone, texture, pattern and space. There are a number of hands-on art activities for students to do in the gallery. These activities relate to particular art works on display and include: drawing, sticking, cutting and making activities.
